Lecture Abstract:
The most active urban developments occur in larger cities, primarily driven by strong economic growth. Oftentimes, however, these urban developments cause unwanted problems such as severe traffic congestion, environmental degradation, etc. Implementing sustainable urban development programs can mitigate many of the unwanted negatives to urban growth. A review of select best practices in urban development―mostly from the San Francisco Bay Area―is presented. Lessons learned from these best practices are readily transferable to fast growing urban cities in China and elsewhere.
